Collalto Sabino

This village, with nearly 500 inhabitants and a castle by the same name, faces the Cervia-Navegna mountain group, with the Collegiove village at the foothills, as well as the Gran Sasso, the Terminillo and Maiella. The majesty of the landscape manifests its magic at sunset, when the lights of all 34 villages can be seen from the fortress. 01_tappe_scheda_collalto.jpg

YOU SHOULD SEE

Walking along the narrow paved streets, you can admire the beautiful stone doorways, in an atmosphere that brings you back through the centuries. It is worth visiting the beautiful octagonal fountain in Piazza della Podesteria, the seventeenth century recently restored palace Latini, and the cemetery near the Church of S. Lucy, dating back to the eleventh century, with a wonderful sixteenth century fresco. Just outside the village, the Convent of St. Mary, with its beautiful fifteenth century portal and, further down, the ruins of Montagliano, an ancient castle and its surrounding village. On the tourist trail that climbs to Mount San Giovanni there are the remains of an ancient abbey built on an old Roman temple.
