Nespolo

Nestled in the Rieti mountains and surrounded by oak and chestnut forests, Nespolo has a peculiar horseshoe shape. At nearly 1,000 meters of altitude, you can enjoy a superb overview of Mounts Cervia and Navegna. The seasonal colours changing create landscapes of evocative beauty. 01_tappe_scheda_nespolo.jpg

YOU SHOULD SEE

The Church of St. Sebastian built in the fifteenth century and restored in 1521, with a painting from sixteenth century Flemish school depicting the martyrdom of St. Sebastian (Patron Saint of the town). Just outside the town you can visit a recently restored old water mill. Of particular interest from a naturalistic point of view is the area of Mount Piano (1,120 m asl), equipped for picnics and suitable for hiking and summertime camping.

YOU SHOULD KNOW

A pretty centre built around the thirteenth century on top of a hill, the union of several scattered villages, now with about 300 inhabitants. Lovers of good food should taste some traditional dishes such as “the cecamariti” (pea soup with croutons), the “gnocchi with beans“, the “torn sagne” (fresh pasta) and, over the Christmas period, the characteristic dessert known as “serpentone” (large snake).
